Elna disks is the name of the cams for Elna Supermatics and later Elna sewing machines.
With these cams you can changes the stitch pattern.

This is an overview over the types of stiches by using the Elna disks. Many of them was made later than the Elna Supermatic, but they can all (after what I have read… This is still theoretical for me…) be used on the older Elna models if they are zigzag sewing machines and have the Elnagraph .
I like how the Elna people have made their own names for the mechanical systems at these vintage Elna sewing machines! It tells me about a time where technology was important for all – remember this is the time (1950s and 1960s) with the race for the Moon, the cold war and the industries in the Western world was growing after the 2. World War. And as a science center teacher I just like that. Technology and knowledge about it is important!
These Elna disk you can buy on the Internet at eBay, on Facebook etc. – and I have already done that. But it is not only my goal to use the Vintage Elna disks. I want to 3D print them too and I will try to make my own too. I am dreaming about making my own special type of stitch! A “Hanne stich”! 😂
This is a kind of analog programming and I am looking forward to try. But first I need to figure out how they works inside the sewing machine – and for that I need to wait for the sewing machine to arrive!
I am not the only one with this idea: I have found free 3d models for free downloading for Elna disks 2 places on the Internet – and I want to try to print them soon.
Here I have imported one of them into Tinkercad because they came from OpenSCAD, which I am not so familiar with (yet).
